The aim of the project is to increase the knowledge of youngsters about participating in the society, to enlarge youth councils and connect youngsters with their home-municipalities by giving them an opportunity to change something.
During this Youth Democracy Project (Give the reins to youth!), youngsters will get an overview of the administrative structure, -functions and opportunities to participate in these processes. This project also contributes to the emergence and development of youth councils. The aims of this project contain mainly youth participation, how to be active in your home municipality development and how to give suggestions to local polititians for solving different problems. After this project youngsters are not afraid to communicate with local authorities (politicians and officials), they know their rights and opportunities to participate in making decisions in their home municipalities.
There will be several different activities during this project. Project starts with introduction meetings. Then will be held local meetings in each municipality separately. In Summer, there will be Summer Academy, where all the youngsters attend together, learn from each-other and get knowledge from the experts. After Summer Academy, there will be held local meetings again, to find solutions for existing local problems and in the end there will be an analyze meeting for working group. During the project we will also develop two guide-lines: one for municipalities and the other to youngsters (in Latvian and in Estonian).
